Please Don’t drink and boat… or drive. There tends to be a bit of a problem here in the summertime. It would be nice to not read about drunk driving deaths every week in our little local papers. Ok, enough preachy. Oh wait I forgot, no texting either ;) . The water can get pretty rough on the summer weekends so just be careful.

Carrying insect repellent during the summer months is smart. Mosquito can be pretty thick if the weather has been wet or if you’ve still water around. Also, I’ve seen quite a few copper-heads in the more sheltered coves and even one or two in the big coves so heads-up, or down.  Especially if you have small children or a dog that likes to poke his head in holes(like me).

Yes, there are Alligator Gar in the lake but they don’t bite people. They prefer shad, a 4-6″ bait-fish common in the lake. The only Gar I’ve seen are under 3″ or so. Piranha have also been caught a few times. These fish are transplants and won’t survive the winter unless it’s abnormally warm. Drunk driving and boating is definitely the most dangerous thing at the lake.
